WHO Statistical Information System (WHOSIS) presents the updated metadata, selected on the basis of quality & availability. It cover over 50 core health indicators, relevance to global health & comparability across member nations.

The six major areas of indicators are: mortality & burden of disease, health service coverage, risk factors, health system inputs, differentials in health outcome & coverage, as well as basic socio-demographic statistics.

They have the most recent & comprehensive health data on all of the 193 WHO Member States. These are published in the World Health Statistics that is released in May of each year.

On the Indicator Definitions and Metadata page, we can find several health data.

For example:

  • Life expectancy at birth (years)
  • Healthy life expectancy (HALE) at birth (years)
  • Probability of dying aged 15-60 years per 1 000 population (adult mortality rate)
  • Probability of dying aged < 5 years per 1000 live births (under-five mortality rate)
  • Neonatal mortality rate (per 1000 live births)
  • Maternal mortality ratio (per 100 000 live births)
  • Deaths due to HIV/AIDS (per 100 000 population)
  • Deaths due to tuberculosis (per 100 000 population)
  • Age-standardized mortality rates by cause (per 100 000 population)
  • Distribution of years of life lost by broader causes (percentage of total)
  • Distribution of causes of death among children aged < 5 years (percentage of total).
