Add Accessibility Tools on Web Developer
March 25, 2008 – 2:28 am by Dani IswaraWe can add online web accessibility tools on Web Developer Firefox extension.
Inspired by Willy SR’s post of Automated Accessibility Testing, I found these 2 3 online tools:
- WAVE (v4.0b; updated 2008)
- TAW
On TAW, we can choose accessibility conformance level (A, AA, AAA) to test. - ATRC Web Accessibility Checker
If you are using Firefox browser, you can install both of them. Follow these links and allow their sites to install the tools:
- WAVE toolbar
- TAW with a click (button location will be on the status-bar) or choose downloadable version as TAW standalone
The download is totally free of charge, and there are several versions available for the most common operative systems: Windows, Mac OS, Unix and family (Linux, Solaris, etc.)
Add WAVE, TAW, ATRC on Web Developer
Almost similar to my previous post, see Firefox, Web Developer, Validome XHTML, we can add WAVE and TAW tools on Web Developer extension also, without installing any toolbar or extension. Please read that post first, then continue to the next step on this post.
Put these links:
- for WAVE:
http://wave.webaim.org/report?url= - for TAW:
http://www.tawdis.net/taw3/online?url= - for ATRC:
http://checker.atrc.utoronto.ca/servlet/Checkacc?&submit1=Check+It&file= - Restart your Firefox
- Now you can use web accessibility tools from the ‘Tools’ menu of Web Developer - Firefox extension.
Colour Contrast Analyser
Another web accessibility tool is the Colour Contrast Analyser Firefox extension.
Determining the colour contrast between foreground and background colours is a time consuming task, but is greatly aided by colour contrast analysers. The problem with colour contrast analysers is that they don’t automatically go through all of the possible colour combinations in a document; instead, it requires a judgement call by the person evaluating the page to decide whether colour combinations look like they may be problematic, and then to enter those colours into a colour contrast analyser.
From the ‘Tools’ menu of Firefox toolbar, you can check your weblog contrast colour.
