Pengguna web yang terpapar visualisasi berupa animasi 'flash' tertentu dapat terpicu dan menimbulkan serangan kejang atau epilepsi. Epilepsi adalah istilah umum dari berbagai tipe kejang (serangan epileptik). Penderita yang didiagnosis epilepsi memiliki periode kejang bukan hanya sekali, tetapi berulang. Bahkan ada yang memiliki beberapa tipe kejang sekaligus. Diagnosis klinis epilepsi biasanya dibantu dari penemuan riwayat kejang yang berulang. Stimulasi tertentu memicu kondisi neurologis berupa aktivitas elektrik abnormal yang terjadi di otak. Kemudian mengakibatkan tidak terkendalinya pergerakan, fungsi, sensasi, kesadaran atau tingkah laku pada bagian tubuh (www.cdc.gov/epilepsy/). Panduan standar aksesibilitas terbaru rekomendasi W3C (WCAG 2.0) -- yang sedang dalam rumusan -- menegaskannya kembali dalam Seizures - Understanding Guideline 2.3. Guideline 2.3: Do not design content in a way that is known to cause seizures. Individu dengan riwayat epilepsi (terutama tipe fotosensitif) dapat terpicu oleh muatan / konten web yang berupa animasi flash berlebihan. Komputer, 'videogame', televisi, papan reklame elektronik dan media visualisasi lainnya yang memuat konten serupa juga berpeluang memprovokasi terjadinya epilepsi. Disamping memiliki interaktivitas, animasi multimedia yang berlebihan juga membahayakan kesehatan. Untuk mencegah kasus serupa terulang kembali seperti dimuat di Experts Issue Recommendations to Protect Public from Seizures Induced by TV / Videogames:

dibuatlah beberapa panduan dan promosi kesehatan masyarakat. Diantaranya WCAG. Untuk alasan tertentu, we don't need a web standard mungkin kurang tepat. Mengacu pada WCAG 2.0, konten web dan komputer sebaiknya memenuhi persyaratan berikut:
  • Flash frequency is less than three flashes in any one second period or greater than 50 or 60 Hz.
  • The combined area of flashes occurring concurrently (but not necessarily contiguously) occupies more than one quarter of any 341 x 256 pixel rectangle anywhere on the displayed screen area when the content is viewed at 1024 by 768 pixels.
  • The flash is less than 10% of full scale white brightness(*) and the darker image is below .80 of full scale white brightness.
  • Saturated red flash is avoided.
(*) Brightness is calculated as 0.2126 x ((R / FS) ^ 2.2) + 0.7152 x ((G / FS) ^ 2.2) + 0.0722 x ((B / FS) ^ 2.2), where R, G, and B are the red, green, and blue RGB values of the color; FS is the maximum possible full scale RGB value for R, G, and B (255 for eight bit color channels); and the "^" character is the exponentiation operator. An "opposing change" is an increase followed by a decrease, or a decrease followed by an increase.
Untuk mengujinya, coba gunakan Photosensitive Epilepsy Analysis Tool (PEAT). PEAT adalah perangkat yang dapat diunduh untuk menguji konten web. Apakah sesuai rekomendasi WCAG 2.0 atau tidak. Dengan penerapan standar web yang tepat, kita pun dapat membaca web & blog dengan nyaman dan sehat. Standar web juga sekaligus membantu mengatasi web problem by people with disabilities (mengurangi diskriminasi informasi). :) Untuk menampilkan berkas multimedia (video, audio, flash, 'movie', 'quicktime') dengan pendekatan standar web X/HTML, silakan dibaca di Object Embedding.     bukan berarti anti animasi flash..tp mungkin maksudnya biar flash dan animasi lain ngga malah bermasalah di kemudian hari..wacana yg dari dl ada..cuman review aja.. :) yg penasaran (hoax) silakan ditelusuri taut2 yg ada :D

    kapan ya kang, flash bs dibuat dg linux..

    terlalu banyak flash juga bikin berat loading. klo uda kayak gitu biasanya langsung close. hehehe... ayo membuat content web yang ringan2 aja. lagian lebih global warming friendly...
