What is the purpose of short
URL or short
URI? Limited character in microblogging such as Twitter? Is there a way to make it more descriptive? Or just leave it mysterious. Let users know until they click on it? Yes, sometimes hidden URLs will help your hidden affiliate links, virus, malware, or business. Kind of tricky surprise. :)
In my opinion, shortURL would be more usable if they have some descriptive value:
- Where are they going?
- What is all about?
- Who is the author?
It needs some alternative texts to describe the shortURL.
For example (less than 140 characters used):
Check this http://is.gd/7SRSx: my old post at daniiswara.net, talk about Usability of ShortURL in Indonesian.
Actually, I do not want to promote my
unessential blog. Share my own blog posts on microblogging? I did it very rarely. :)
Is descriptive shortURL a bad idea?
Just unessential weblog
